APA/Division 21 Website Re-organization

APA Division 21 asked us to help design and evaluate a new website. The previous site was not intuitive and needed reorganizing. In addition, the site needed to be easy to update by the webmaster to quickly inform members of upcoming events.

  • Problem: A website that did not have a clear organizational scheme and needed additional content for its growing membership.
  • Evaluation strategy: We began by distributing a survey to elicit members' thoughts on current and future website features. The survey results were used to guide the design and organization of the new website. We then performed a card sort to determine the optimal way to organize the website's information into primary categories and subcategories. The final results were used to determine the information architecture of the new site.
  • Solution/Outcome: The new site is completely reorganized and includes an easy to update announcements section and search functionality.
    • After the website was constructed, we performed a heuristic evaluation to uncover potential usability issues.
    • In addition, we conducted limited usability testing in order to ensure that users are able to easily access the information and enjoy using the site.
    • Results showed that the new site is easy to navigate and the new content is a welcome addition.
