Department of Psychology
The website of the Department of Psychology was not updated since the late 1990s. The initial site, while adequate for a small Department, could not accommodate the growth of information (e.g., advising information, information about the graduate programs).
We re-organized the information into a more intuitive categorization that made it easier for visitors to find information.
- Problem: An old website that could not scale up with the needs of a growing academic department.
- Evaluation strategy: We utilized card sorting to evaluate where different user groups expected to find information on our website.
- We also examined the website of similar programs to see how they organized their information.
- Solution/Outcome: A completely new organizational scheme was created for the website. We balanced the needs of all of our potential user groups (e.g., undergraduates, potential graduate students, existing graduate students, faculty, colleagues). Subsequent evaluations showed an increase in subjective satisfaction and ease of use.
