Usability benefits
Just a few of the benefits of good usability:
- Reduces training, maintenance and support costs
- Fulfills organizational objectives (improved operational efficiency, productivity, and customer service)
- Better User satisfaction
- Better Job satisfaction
- Improved safety and health
- A reduction in absenteeism and turnover
The rule of thumb in many usability-aware organizations is that the cost-benefit ratio for usability is $1:$10-$100. Once a system is in development, correcting a problem costs 10 times as much as fixing the same problem in design. If the system has been released, it costs 100 times as much relative to fixing in design" (Gilb, 1988).
Since a main purpose of the Clemson Usability Group is to give our graduate students real-world usability experience, we ask that you donate enough to effectively cover our operation costs. In a sense, everyone wins. You receive quality usability evaluation at a fraction of the price of typical usability companies and we will be able to teach our students in an actual lab setting. Any donations exceeding operation costs will go towards improvements to the usability facilities and to the Clemson University Student Chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
